This two hour interactive workshop introduces pupils to the diverse world of Ancient Greece, seen through the eyes of the Athenians and the Spartans.

Sappho is an Athenian woman, skilled in the arts, dance and theatre. She tells the children what it is like to grow up in the city of Athens, and teaches them a greek dance to perform. They also learn how important the Athenian Navy was, and get a chance of rowing a warship!
Meanwhile, in the warlike city of Sparta, the children meet Ariston, a fearsome General from the Spartan army. He also tells the children what it is like to grow up as a child of Sparta...very different to the Athenians! He drills the children in Spartan military manouevres, including the famous "phalanx". The two groups then get to show each other the differences in lifestyle between the Spartans and the Athenians.
After a break, the groups come back together to rehearse and perform a classic Greek Tragedy, "Theseus & The Minotaur", using the greek theatre method of mask work.
All children are provided with a costume as part of this show.
The session lasts approximately 2 hours, and can be fitted around a morning or an afternoon.
(we recommend this size of group in order for the pupils to get the most out of the interactive nature of the session. Should you have larger classes or groups, please contact us to enquire about booking multiple sessions)
